I just re-read The Search to Belong. Something that resonated with me both in the book and the talk I just listened to on Nine Historical Tools is the tendency of pastors (I am one) to prescribe what people should or should not be or how people should or should not respond to the Gospel. Finding ways to help people to be my friends and then a friend of God is what I want to work on. In our depersonalizing culture we in the church can fall into the very same trap. Thanks for helping us see that even when we are trying to make disciples of Jesus Christ.
